Two more weeks packed with information from our 2024 Citizen Academy have passed. Participants and our team alike are having a great time diving deeper into what a typical day looks like in our different divisions (which is wildly different, but equally important and fulfilling). Our participants have had thoughtful questions, allowing our team to share even more as the classes progress.
Week 3 Recap
After having to reschedule our second Citizen Academy session (featuring a thorough Jail tour) on January 16th, our team picked the program right back up Tuesday, January 23rd. Administrative Lieutenant Adam Shanks presented on the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program. Pretrial Specialist Jeff Hoey and Michelle Yuson shared information on the pretrial service their team offers and the clients they connect with daily. Sally Edwards, our Warrants/Transports Specialist, gave us a glimpse into her daily activities. Lastly, we wrapped up the evening with a presentation from Counselor, Dennis Buckmaster, on programs available to adults in custody. Dennis also took a moment to teach the class a breathing technique that he teaches adults in his programs.
Week 4 Recap
Our team had another great late night with our Citizen Academy participants on January 30th. Our Animal Shelter Manager, Sara Wynveen gave a presentation on the Animal Shelter (past, present, and future plans), the services provided by her amazing team, and a quick presentation on the Animal Shelter Medical Fund. One of our Animal Services Deputies (ASD), Dave Martin, followed Sara’s presentation with information on what ASDs are responsible and how their duties can vary day to day. Finally, our Emergency Manager, Sam Buckley, wrapped up the night with an overview on Emergency Management, including information on day-to-day operations, emergency response, and all of the juggling that goes into helping your communities prepare, respond to, and recover from disasters.
