Karl Vertner


Lieutenant Karl Vertner is a graduate of Taft High School in Lincoln City. Before entering law enforcement, he was a Charter Boat Captain in Depoe Bay where he took people fishing and whale watching on daily ocean tours. Lieutenant Vertner spent many years as a volunteer fire fighter with North Lincoln Fire and Rescue. He began his career in law enforcement in 2004 as a reserve deputy and was hired full time in 2005 as a patrol deputy.

During his time in patrol, Lieutenant Vertner served in various capacities to include Civil Service, Marine Enforcement and was appointed as Field Training Officer. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2016 where he took on the supervision of the Sheriff's Office Canine Team, School Resource Deputies and Patrol Deputy Recruitment. He was promoted to Lieutenant in May 2021 as the Patrol Commander. Lt. Vertner has over 2,300 hours of training in law enforcement, leadership and supervision. Lt. Vertner possesses a Supervisory Certificate from DPSST.
