[ARCHIVED] Winter Weather Update

Winter Weather Update

**Update as of 2:30pm on 1/15/24**

The Lincoln County Call Center is now open to help with some information and resource needs.
It is still best to follow information sources for timely updates and resources, but our team will help you troubleshoot if you are not able to navigate the resources listed below and in our previous posts. Call Center: 541-265-0621

**Update as of 12:30pm on 1/15/24**
There have been several questions throughout the community. More information and resources will be flowing today, continue to monitor local sources for updates.
How can I help?
  • Check on your friends and neighbors. Offer assistance when you can. Neighbors may need a ride to shelters or hotels with power, supplies, or other help that you can offer.
  • Make smart and safe decisions. Many roads have been cleared, but some may still be icy and debris may continue to fall or become hazardous.
  • If roads are closed, do not try to access them. This puts yourself, first responders, and work crews at risk. This can delay work on the road and may mean first responders won’t be able to reach you.
  • Be aware sidewalks, paths, and roads may be slippery. Use caution and avoid unnecessary risks.
  • If you are using generators, practice generator safety and power safety outage safety in general: http://www.ready.gov/power-outages...
Weather Updates and anticipated impacts:
  • Continue to monitor the National Weather Service for updated weather forecasts.
  • As of this posting, there may be power outages for several more days. Continue to check with your power provider for the most updated information. Their info is listed below. Utility companies are working tirelessly and bringing in additional support to restore services as quickly as possible.
Where can I find the most updated information?

Partners throughout Lincoln County are working together to bring you updated information and establish resources. In the meantime, please keep these tips in mind:
  • When possible, stay off the roads. Accessing roads that are closed puts yourself, responders, and work crews at risk (and further delays getting roads cleared).
  • Reach out to your neighbors and loved ones. Check on those near you and offer help where you can.
  • Consider staying with family, friends, or at local hotels with power if your household is still out of power.

** Updated as of 7:04 pm on 01/13/24 **

Due to the predicted winter storm, parts of Lincoln County are experiencing hazardous road conditions and widespread power outages.

  • Keep yourself and household safe:
    • Avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.
      • Roads may be blocked with fallen debris and public safety responders may not be able to reach you.
      • Some roads are closed.
        • Highway 18 from MP 1 to MP 8
        • Highway 229 from 101 to Siletz
        • Highway 20 from Newport to Eddyville
      • Debris may continue to fall.
    • If your power goes out, keep yourself warm:
      • Wear layers of lightweight, warm clothing.
      • Close blinds or curtains and close off rooms to retain heat.
      • Stuff towels or rags in cracks under doors.
      • Eat and drink to provide energy to your body. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
      • Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from generators, heaters, and cook stoves: cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm
      • Call 211 for warming centers: 211info.org/winter-and-severe-weather-shelters
  • Continue to check reliable sources for updates on road closures, conditions, and power outages.
