What You Need to Know

Measles is virus that spreads very easily through the air when a person with measles coughs or sneezes and can stay in the air for up to two-hours after the person leaves. Measles can cause serious illness and is most dangerous for people who have not been vaccinated, pregnant people, babies under 12 months, and people with weakened immune systems.

The best protection against measles is the MMR vaccine. It is safe and it works well. Now is the time to check your vaccination status to make sure that you are protected.

Not sure if you are vaccinated? Call your doctor or reach out to Lincoln County Public Health at 541-265-4112.

Symptoms

Measles symptoms often starts with coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fever, and swollen lymph nodes, and may be mistaken for a cold. People may also experience red, watery, or itchy eyes and sensitivity to light. 1-7 days after first symptoms, a flat, red, spotty rash starts near the head and works its way down a person body.

If you have any of these symptoms, stay home and call your healthcare provider.

If you need care at a clinic, urgent care, or hospital, please call ahead so your healthcare provider can take steps to protect others.
