The week of October 16- 20, 2023 local law enforcement agencies and partners participated in a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. The training covered topics such as Mental Health First Aid, Crisis de-escalation, Suicide Prevention, Substance Use Disorders, and many more. Seven team members from our office were able to attend this year including Deputy David Boys, Deputy Bo Douglas, Deputy Josh Lane, Deputy William Wren, Deputy Jenna VanDyke, Deputy Gareth Gregson, and Deputy Abby Dorsey.
CIT is a program that provides the foundation necessary to promote community and statewide solutions to assist individuals in crisis, and those with mental illness. The CIT model reduces both stigma and the need for further involvement with the criminal justice system. CIT provides a forum for effective problem solving regarding the interaction between law enforcement and the mental health care system and creates the context for sustainable change.
Participating agencies:
- Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office
- Oregon State Police
- Lincoln Co. Behavioral Health
- Reconnections Counseling
