| Who Can Be Placed on GPS |
| Persons may be placed on GPS directly: |
by the Probation Officer, |
by Court Order, or |
by the Sheriff's Office (by matrix or 1145). |
| GPS Requirements |
| The offender must have: |
a residence, |
an unrestricted telephone, and |
make monthly payments in advance for the service. |
| How GPS Works |
The Personal Tracking Unit (PTU) and Transmitter system consists of an
ankle band attached to the offender and a PTU attached to the offender's telephone system. |
Should the offender exceed a preset distance from the Personal Tracking Unit, an automatic transmission will
occur notifying the monitoring agency that the offender is in violation of the parameters set up for his specific case. |
Upon receipt of the information, a Parole Officer will be dispatched to investigate the
situation and make an arrest, if appropriate. |
