The end of summer is drawing near, which means it is ready to prepare for Lincoln County children to go back to school. Along with school registration and back to school supply shopping comes the importance of making sure your child is up-to-date on their immunizations. Children in Oregon are required to receive immunizations from certain diseases or have a medical or non-medical exemption. If they do not meet these requirements, they can be excluded from school. To learn more about these requirements visit the Lincoln County Public Health website, http://www.co.lincoln.or.us/hhs/page/immunizations.
Immunizations for your child are important because they provide protection from potentially life threatening illness. Immunizations protect your child as well as those who cannot receive vaccinations because they are too young, are immune compromised, or have another reason why they cannot receive an immunization. This protects our community from disease outbreaks. Last year, Lincoln County schools saw an outbreak of the flu, which can result in hospitalization or death.
Luckily, there are many opportunities in Lincoln County to get your child up-to-date on the immunizations they need to have a healthy school year. If your child cannot receive their immunization from their local primary care provider, the following sites provide back-to-school immunizations.
If you do not have insurance coverage and cannot afford the cost of immunizations for your child, the Vaccines for Children program can provide the immunizations for no cost.
